Aspen groves are all vertical lines, and a snowboard deck is one long horizontal, so painting one on the other takes some planning. The trunks march across the board with the moose set among them, dark against pale bark, and the eyes for the aspen knots get put in last by hand. Every board we start with came off a mountain with its own dings and its own outline, so the grove never lands the same way twice.
