A C-17 sits wings out over a hand painted sunset ridgeline, done in exterior oils on a full size Adirondack chair. The frame is retired skis on a Douglas Fir base, built in Colorado. Nobody ever called the C-17 pretty, and nobody who loves one has ever cared.

Start with the alpenglow, an orange and purple ridgeline painted across the seat back, then send the fighter jets through it. All of it goes on by hand in exterior oils, over a full size Adirondack built from retired skis. Every sunset we paint comes out a little different, which is rather the point.
